Circular walks on the Border Path (Grænsestien)

If you would like to take a walk which brings you back to where you originated, then you should choose one of the five circular tours the Border Path (Grænsestien) also offers.

Circular walks on the Border Path (Grænsestien)

Despite the name, the Border Path (Grænsestien) does not just invite for one walk. On the contrary, you can experience the Border Path (Grænsestien) by taking several different routes. If you choose to walk along the path you can walk from Vester Vedsted to Høm. The length of this walk is 21 kilometers. The walk from Høm to Obbekær is 14, 5 kilometers. If you walk from Obbekær to the King’s Stream (Kongeåen) it is 12,5 kilometers.

Circular tour by Vester Vedsted (10.5 km)

From Vester Vedsted you can experience the stories of the Border Path along the Wadden Sea dikes and the marshland with the many sheep on a 10.5 km long route. At Hvidding church was the settlement that later moved further inland and became known as Ribe.

Circular tour by Høm (2 km)

At Høm you can go for a 2 km walk which follows a section of The Border Path. The area is characterized by fields and lush pasture beds and the entire tour runs along peaceful country roads.

Circular tour by Stensbæk Plantation (23 km)

If you want to experience the heathland and Stensbæk Plantation with the Border Path (Grænsestien) as your starting point, a slightly longer walk awaits you. You can start your walk at several different locations, and if you follow the route you have to be prepared for a walk of 23 kilometers, which will also take you past the beautiful lake, Munkesø by Skallebæk where a large monastery used to be situated. 

Circular tour by Kalvslund (6.5 km)

By Kalvslund the circular tour is 6.5 kilometers. Half of the time you walk on paved roads while the latter part of .the walk follows the original border on cozy paths made along field boundaries. In the distance towards southwest one can just make out Horslund Krat (Horslund Thicket).  It is possible to make a detour from the route into Horslund Krat. On your route you will pass several of the present border markers.

 

Circular tour by the King’s Stream (Kongeåen) (2.5 km)

The most northern part of the Border Path (Grænsestien) offers a circular tour of 2.5 kilometers. Here by the King’s Stream (Kongeåen) the Border Path (Grænsestien) joins the King’s Stream Path (Kongeåstien), and thereby elaborates on the narrative about the former border with Germany. Because from this spot and going east, the King’s Stream (Kongeåen) constituted the natural border from 1864 to 1920.
